4th of July was nice. We started the day off by all heading to the beach (including Luli). There were a lot of waves and Henry actually got to surf. This is only the 2nd time since we've been here that the waves have been surfable. So you can imagine his excitment. And, here he also gets the waves to himself. While he was surfing, Gio, Luli, and I hung out in a little "posita" (i don't know the english name for this - but shallow water like a little pool sectioned off by rocks from the larger ocean. Like a pond). Gio happily threw rocks in the water, I laid back in the water, and Luli roamed and stood as bodyguard for us. It was really fun and very relaxing.
For most of you, this doesn't sound like anything special. But I really enjoyed myself because I wasn't chasing behind Giovanni every 2 seconds. He stayed in one place right next to me and content with his rock throwing. So I just got to lay back and say "ahhhhhhh" :)
On the way back home we grabbed a bite to eat. Another unusual for us: we ate McDonald's. YUM! We don't usually choose to go to McD's, so it was extra delicious. Love their fries and mcChicken sandwich. haha. yummy yummy.
Mid day, we came home and ALL slept for almost 4 hours! Complete silence. We were all knocked out because of the beach and sun. Even Luli. One of those super duper drooler deep sleeps. More "ahhhhh"
Later that evening, we had a special invitation to the Captain's house for a gathering/dinner and fireworks show. It was nice. Huge house, and lots of people. Several families roamed the patio with a view to the bay. They had more food than I've ever seen, people mingled and kids played. And the mosquitoes were not invited, but they raided and enjoyed their feast of us. A beautiful afternoon/evening at sunset. Then the crowd migrated down the street 2 houses down, to a commanders house, where they had a banquet of deserts out in the street that all the guests brought. Everyone hung out in the street until the fireworks show. The kids played, adults mingled. The usual.
The fireworks show: I mean, it was great, but nothing different than any other fireworks show I've seen before. Overall, it was a family event that was pretty mellow. Nothing crazy (booooo) but it was nice :) The festivities ended early for us at 10pm. Overall the day was super nice, we had a great time and enjoyed it from sunrise to fireworks :)
Michelle's side note: I'm getting a little antsy with the family events - ready to party like its 1999!!
Some pictures from 4th of July evening:
This is Gio's first fireworks show.
